“Transmissions from the Camp Trans”
The claim that was being made in this Rogerian style passage was that transsexual men should be able to attend the MWMF.
“Dark Webs Goth Subcultures in Cyberspace”
In this Toulmin style passage the writer is arguing that cyberspace has contributed to the survival of the Goth subculture.
“The Truck Stop as Community and Culture”
This passage uses its Toulmin approach in order to argue how the truckers are able to still form their own little subculture at the truck stop.
“House for the Homeless”
The writer of this passage uses a Classical approach in arguing their point about how homeless people are human also and should not be forgotten about.
Time is winding down and our rough draft for our final paper is due next week. I still have a couple more researching to do when it comes to my subculture. I am planning on visiting my field site again in order to get a better understanding and observations on my subculture. I will do one more interview in order to rap up my paper. I am pretty skeptical about this paper but where there is a will there is a way. One question that I would like answered during peer review is whether or not my claim is effective.

Fieldsite
*What is going on in the field site
Today when I visited Grady Hospital to observe the subculture of nursing I saw some interesting thing. Most of the nurses were attending to their patients. There are some nurses that are doing paper work it almost seems to be time consuming. There are two sides to the floor that I am on and one side has eight rooms while the other has almost ten rooms.
*How do the members of the subculture interact with each other?
The members of the subculture are friendly to each other and ask each other for help when needed. They joke with each other about their patients.
*Make a list of terminology used at the fieldsite with which you might be unfamiliar.
I hear words like iv, charge nurse, senior nurse,b.i.d, EKG
*What details, behaviors, surroundings did you have questions about?
I wanted to know what a charge nurse was because a lot of the nurses were talking about charge nurse. There was a lot of paper work in the break room and I wanted to know what that paper work was.
*Find at least one person at your fieldsite you can speak to and ask them a question about something you observed that you didn't understand.
I was able to talk to one of the new nurses and also the charge nurse on duty. She told that a charge nurse was the nurse that was in charge of the nurses on duty and also the nurses.

Starting Subcultures
Subculture: Nurses
Sources:
Archer,Ellen Sarah. “ Nurses a political force”.Wadsworth Health Sciences Division,1982
Hilton,Penny. “Fundamental Nursing Skills”. John Wiley&Sons
“Healthcare Career directory .Nurses and Physicians.” Gale Research
“Registered Nurse”. Nurses Organizing Committee, 2006
Worcester,Alfred. “Nurses and Nursing”. Harvard University Press, 1927
Reflection:
I really enjoyed “Fundamental Nursing Skills” because I was able to find out some interesting skills that are used in my subculture. This book gave a variety of skills needed and some terminology that is used in the nursing field. In order to really understand some of these terminologies I would have to do a lot of research prior to having read this book. I t would be a book that I would more likely use if I was in the subculture but since I am not it might be hard for me to understand some of the terms and skills that were presented. Next time I will need to look more into a book that actually talks about the field of nursing then just the skills/procedures.

Acting Prisoners
1. What makes this fieldsite good? It is a one on one interview with the prisoners (actors) themselves so the audience can have a better insight on how the prisoners are.
2. What observations the author makes gives better understanding of subculture? He sees how the prisoners have to get out of their prisoner mode and play the role of their characters. He realizes how they are normal people and why do we have to put them in prison. The author also sees how some of the prisoners change between the time span that he sees them.
3. What interview techniques does author use to work to help us in understanding this subculture? He asks the prisoners to relate their characters to themselves, and ask insight of how Hamlet relates to the prison world. The author also talks to the prisoners by themselves so he can individually get to know them.
4. What are norms/values of subculture? Some of the norms and the values shared is that the prisoners are that they prisoners are strip searched before coming to act, they engage in relaxation exercise, they are violent criminals playing men who have commited violent crime ,and most share an interested in acting.

Reflection:
When I read "Mommy wars: stay at home and career moms face off on their choices their families" was really a good book when I read it. It had a lot of information in it that I knew would help me in my subculture of housewives. The book talked about the difference of the housewife and the career mom so that will really help me. Since the book had the comparison of both types of mothers I am starting to think if I should narrow my search to a book that is just about housewives. Even though this book was good it will be better to get a different book so I can better focus on my subculture.

Harlequin Romances
Harlequin Romance is what I decided to get more information on. It is ironic how I picked this topic because my older sister used to read these novels when I was younger but I never took any time to read any of them. When looking up this topic I had difficulty because I kept getting repeated errors saying that this topic did not exist but I did not give up and finally found my five sources needed to complete my research.
I was so tempted to go onto google.com since that is my favorite website but I had to resist. I first found out that harlequin was common during the eighteenth century in Italian comedy culture ( Delpiano 1). A harlequin was a supposed to be this poor character in comedy who wore colorful costumes that were costumes that were richer in culture (Delpiano 1). Harlequin is also a noun which is derived from the Italian language (Webster). It is also from the Middle French which it meant demon in the French language (Webster). A character that was in comedy who would wear tights, with a clean shaven head and a masked face was qualified as a harlequin (Webster).
The Harlequin Romance era came around after World War II in 1949 (Osborne 1). This period was the beginning of the romance fiction era (Osborne 1). The main audience was geared towards white Americans when these novels first came out (Osborne 1). Other races did not feel this was right particularly the African Americans and decided to publish their first novel in the 1960’s (Osborne 1). It is true that the typical Harlequin Romance reader is a middle aged woman that is married and who lives in a small town in the south (Marsh 2). Now society is trying to cater more to a younger crowd who is willing to spend money on these books (Marsh 2).
During the 1980s most of the romances that were on television were like traditional harlequin romances (Wagner). Most of these films had romances that were filled with romances that centered on exotic locations, glamorous characters, happy endings, and romantic adventures (Wagner). Now this kind of novels sound like the kind of books that I enjoy reading. I would mind reading one of these novels on my leisure time.

Hip Hop Culture
The book Black Noise: Rap Music and Black Culture in Contemporary America that was written by Tricia Rose was very interesting. Tricia Rose is a writer who clearly knows her stuff. She has her PHD in African American studies and specializes in the twentieth century popular culture, politics, and social issues. I have only read the first three pages of her book and I did not want to put it down. The author introduces the book with a verse from the well known hip hop group Public Enemy’s song to familiarize the audience with the hip hop culture. Her great details on what hip hop consists of makes one not doubt her on even writing this book. I was able to tell that she knew what she was talking about because it seemed like she did some extensive research and used that to state her claim. Tricia is not really putting rap music down so far in the pages that I have read but she basically talks about how this type of music is made by rapping on the topic of social, cultural, and political issues. She talked about how most rappers are given props when they have actually experienced what they are rapping about. Some of the rappers that she mentioned I found out that the Tricia have a lot of knowledge on the rap industry and how it relates in the black culture.

Dizzee Rascal
I chose Dizzee Rascal to write about because when I first heard his song “Flex” in class today I found myself dancing in my seat. I could almost see myself in the club with a lot of flashing bright lights and me dancing. Dizzee Rascal was born as Dylan Miles and he is a nineteen year old well known British artist who grew up in East England. He received his name from a teacher who always used to call him a rascal because he was known as a trouble maker in school.
The type of music that he is known for is “garage” music. This is the type of music that is well known from artist who grew in the inner city streets of England. Garage music is more of what we Americans would call rap. Dizzee turned to music so that he would not have a life that consisted of crime after he was expelled from school at a young age. He did not want to be considered an inner city boy who lived a life of crime so he used his time wisely with his friends by making music in his bedroom with whatever equipment that he had.
Dizzee Rascal’s culture is much similar to the American hip hop culture in which most of the artist relied on a form of music to get away from the troubled lives that they lived in. The form of music that he is known for is similar to rap in the U.S. because the beats and the whole appearance of him to the artist of our hip hop industry are the same. The typical big jackets, tennis shoes, big jeans, and flashy chains that are associated with the hip hop culture were also visible in Dizzee’s video. This easily shows how the hip hop culture is international and it is one of the main components that give countries some similarity.

Peer Review
Today peer review was not that bad. I came into class knowing what I needed to work on as far as my paper went and my partner was able to bring that to my attention. When I say that it was not that bad it is beacuse I recieved some input on what I needed to work on on my paper. Even though I only had one person reviewing my paper in the end I left class knowing what I needed to work on. Hopefully next time I will be able to have two partners instead of one to review my paper. I mean it is always better to recieve input from more then one person when it comes to a paper that will be a portion of your grade. Thanks anyways Kenya(peer review partner) you were a big help.

PCU
PCU was a very interesting movie that we watched in class recently. It was funny to me how college life is perceived by many. Most part of the movie showed most students either partying, doing drugs, or just in their rooms not doing any work. It is funny because college is not even like that at all. College has become too expensive for one to come to school and just lounge around. There were many logical fallacies in this movie but there was one that really caught my attention. It is a scene in which the leader of the Pit shows no respect to the president of the school when she enters the house. When she is talking to him he just waves her off and ignores her when she tells him to put his cigarette out. This adds to the argument that the movie is trying to make by saying that college is just a big party and the students are not respectful. This would definitely be a fallacy because it is not true at all.

Death of an Innocent
Society has changed day by day and the money has become the main goal of most people. People have become too used to having a roof over their head and living of materialistic things. Nature would surely not be an alternative even if one did not have a home. The economy has become a source of survival. People need money to live like how they want. They work and go to school so they would not have to eat in the wilderness and find any means of a ride from a stranger like Chris did. It is interesting because Chris chose this way of living on purpose. He did not want to have to work just for money and that goal having to be his daily routine. He found happiness in nature and the beauty and challenges that it brought forth. Many people unlike Chris base their life of money and do not think about traveling on foot and being a hitchhiker. People are becoming greedy. Some laugh at the fact of giving back to the environment and enjoying the existence of it.
Money is quickly being burnt figuratively when it comes to how people are living their lives these days. Chris did not want that life. Once during his journey he burnt up the last bit of money that he had. He knew that money was not the means of happiness, but instead just another asset truly treasured by society. Chris donated to an organization a large sum of money that his parents saved up for him for his college fund. He did not want to live of money like the rest of society. There are not that many people that can live in nature for a long period of time with the purpose of never going back into society. Even though Chris did not survive to share his story he died not give into the myth that “money makes the world go around”.

AIDS- Now A Way To Make Money?
What is the world coming to! Why does this one particular clothing company have to advertise such a sad picture of an AIDS patient in order to get the sympathy of their customers? I am certain it is not even for their sympathy but for the public’s money. This ad was not a good way to appeal to consumers at all. It is interesting that this clothing company used such a sad picture in order to appeal to their customers. When someone initially sees a picture of a bed ridden man who seems to be dying of AIDS their thought would not be oh “clothing ad”. This ad was only used so that customers could sympathize and want to buy the clothing. This way of advertising is just wrong. The promotion for the cure or knowledge of AIDS should have been better advertised then in this clothing company’s advertisement.
I looked at this ad and when I saw it I realized that AIDS is really REALITY. There are many people that are naïve about this epidemic that is spreading all over the world and killing a lot of our generation. There are so many people that are being infected who don’t know the proper treatment or the way to go about being helped. The man on the bed of the ad was at his last stage of life and for him to have known that he was the main face on clothing ad should have been considered an insult to his face.
AIDS is a serious disease and the money collected should just be for that. People who looked at this ad are not sure if the percentage of the money that will be made from the clothing will go to the cure for AIDS or the company itself. I would think having looked at this ad that it was only to get money for the clothing company itself. Most of the money probably went to the company anyways. Wow the way companies try to make money now a days!
There are many people out there who do not mind trying to help with the treatment of AIDS but there has to be a better strategy in how to obtain the public’s attention. There are many companies that raise AIDS awareness by making all the contributions made only for that particular cause. How is one to be sure when they bought this clothing from this company that the money was raised for AIDS? Some people would probably even be afraid to buy clothing to know that the main advertisement is for such a serious disease. For advertisements for clothing objects more like a celebrity or people that seem happy would make people want to buy the clothes.
People want to give their money to a company or a foundation that makes its main focus about raising money for a particular cause. When a company has its own intentions of making their own money and just using a serious disease to increase its’ buyers this makes people not want to contribute to the awareness of AIDS. No one wants to be cheated out of what their money. The clothing company should have found a better way to get money from the public!

Thinking
So while I am at the library alot of things are running through my mind...I am supposed to be finishing my blog but it will have to wait. Why is this one particular thought constantly in my head. I want to do something about it but my ego will not allow me to. You and I are alike in so many different ways.. I love your company.Whenever you are around I can not help but to keep a smile on my face. I know we tried to work on our relationship but the word STUBBORN keeps us apart. The thought of ever trusting someone again was definately out the question before I met you...Hmm what is a girl to do because I am building trust in you and loving everything about you....all the way down to that sexy ass jamaican accent!
